    Ignition Shield Wing Nuts

    Hey folks,
I took off the shielding on the 68 L79. I'm going to give them a good cleaning and polish. I noticed a few wing nuts are squished at the wings from routine take offs with channel locks or similar pliers. I purchased a few years ago that look similar to the originals. Is there any noticeable markings I should be looking for on the originals ? Thanks as always , jeff

I think you will find the repro wing bolts are good as installed. If put side to side with an original there is a minute difference in size but not discernible otherwise.

Thanks, Gene. Once and a while I see a wing nut stated as NOS on EBay and they go for good money. I guess that is the power of stating something as NOS. Jeff

Jeff -- I heard somewhere that originals have no evidence of the thread shaft end on the wing side -- as if the cavity was filled with "pooled" solder or some other metal. Here's a couple of mine that I believe are original for C2.

              Jeff,

A single wing nut that goes for $25 or higher on e-bay could be the wing nut for the air cleaner cover. Repros of those wing nuts are detectably different from originals, hence the high e-bay price.
