    Bill
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will chime in. But to me that seems to be cutting it a bit close, although I have seen closer. From the final assembly date of trans to car date is 28 days. With at least 4 Sundays in there we are down to 24. That means the trans was completed, boxed up, shipped, un packed, put in assembly line, and installed in car, all in about three weeks time. I worked part time on loading docks back then and freight did not arrive to its destination as fast as it does today. AS I said earlier hopefully someone with assembly knowledge will chime in. Just my old two cents

If you can verify that the main case is aluminum, the time you spent typing the message would be the very last milli-second you ever spend fretting about the transmission, except for cleaning it off every two-three years.

        Thanks guys.
        I see your points.
Trans is aluminum and we think it's the original one...we can account for only 30 of it's 49 years.

Bill, the second set of numbers, 2101156, is the serial number of the car that the transmission was originally put into. If that number matches your cars serial number, VIN, then it is the orginal transmission to the car.
The '62 Vettes were the first to get the VIN stamped into the transmissions like this. My '62 was built in Nov of '61 but had a '60 cast iron tranny in it. A fellow NCRS member was able to find me the correct tranny in Carlisle and it turned out to just 384 cars after mine, build just six days later.

            Thanks, David.

I've attached the original Conditional Sale Contract showing the serial number....it's a match.

Bill, great news! What a great piece of your car's history to have!
I am still looking for mine. Have not been able to find anything prior to 1967 yet.
My serial number is 2550 so it was not far behind yours on the line.

Bill ref your 54 Ford trade in reminds me of a classmates 54 Ford two door that had a factory installed partial glass in the roof at the front. Unique optioned 54 Ford for the small population area we lived in.

                  Jim,

I remember. They called them "Skyliners"
Mine was a Cadet Blue tu-door sedan (not a skyliner) with a 1957 Mercury Turnpike Crusier engine...it would FLY!!
