The judging manual says only powerglides had starter braces. Can anyone confirm this fact for me.

That's how it was. For 1962, only Powerglide-equipped Corvettes used a block mounted starter. The manual transmission applications used a bellhousing-mounted starter. The starter braces are designed to work with applications using a block-mounted starter only.
