    vent window regulator p/n

I am digging through a pile of vent window regs for my 64, they all seem to have different length crank stems. the one i think is the right one is 3824303 (L) is this correct? Thanks - Ryan

The answer will depend on several factors including year of car and body. You've already told us you've got a '64 but omitted coupe/convertible...

I'd say take your worn original, measure the shaft length and visually ID the number of 'rings' it has adjacent to the flutes at the outer end. Now, sort the pile of candidate parts on that basis.

Then, crack the appropriate past article in Restorer Magazine to find:

3824301/302 (L/R) are the PN's used on '63-65 convertibles. Further, when sorting from the 'pile', they can be visually identified as having a shaft length of 1-5/8 inches with THREE circular grooves on the shaft.

All it took was a quickie .PDF search of my copy of the 'Complete Restorer' utility from the NCRS Merchandise store...

This is my understanding on the codes on rings:

          1 ring

          63-64 Coupe

          2 rings

          65-67 Conv.

          3 rings

          63-64 Conv.
          65-67 Coupe

These are the rings on the shaft that the handle attached to.

Hum, ole Harry is seldomly wrong... So, I rechecked my source data and found three things:

            (1) I quoted the article correctly, author Bill Turner
            (2) The author published a revision to the article that invalidates BOTH my post and Harry's...
            (3) There's another article on the same subject by another author, Jimmy Greg, and his data differs further still!

Per the revised mid-year vent window regulator article by NCRS member, Bill Turner, here's the pecking order

            0 Grooves, 1-5/16" shaft, 63-64 Convertible
            1 Groove, 1-5/16" shaft, 63-64 Coupe
            2 Grooves, 1-11/16" shaft, 65-67 Convertible
            3 Grooves, 1-9/16" shaft, 65-67 Coupe

Per the Jimmy Greg article this is the pecking order

0 Grooves, not recognized as a legitimate Corvette part
            1 Groove, 1-3/8" shaft, 63-64 Coupe
            2 Grooves, 1-3/4" shaft, 65-67 Coupe & Convertible
            3 Grooves, 1-5/8" shaft, 63-65 Convertible

Measuring accurately to 1/16th of an inch is an issue, but counting/citing the number of rings is a no-brainer and the two authors disagree! Plus, the Gregg article appears to contradict itself as the 65 convertible appears with two different regulator assy's.

There might have been a running change to explain two different PN's. But, on checking my copy of the '65 AIM, none were documented with the convertible regulators being GM 3824301-2...

I guess this is a risk/problem we take when we use the Complete Restorer. Articles appear to be FACT, but the can/do change based on revision(s) and sometimes what was believed to be true gets changed as we learn more about these cars!

Well i have a 2 groove, and a 3 groove i will put one on each side so i will at least be 50% correct. - RB
