    Need Part Identification

I need to know what type of screw is associated with part # 163210. The 4 screws hold the SS trim pieces onto the glove box lid on a 1960. Bubba installed 4 different type of screws!

GM #163210 was never a SERVICE-available screw as far as I can find. However, I believe it was a pan head, phillips drive, #10-16 self tapping screw and of chrome finish. I do not know the length, but it was likely very short.

Joe, in '57 it was a #8 phillips pan head screw, #8 thread and 1/2" long. Gary....

Thanks for the information. I will remove the existing screws and see if any one of them match a #10-16 pan head or a #8.

Here's a shot of the originals from my '59. The thread is 0.187 dia. at the head and 0.354 long. They are cad. plated. Interesting tidbit: One of the aluminum retainers is painted and one is not. I included the hinge fastener because it is a clutch head.

Thanks for the great photo. After removing the glove box door, I used a small magnet to extract whatever had accumulated under the bottom of the glove box. Found one of the original pan head screws that I was missing; plus an assortment of nuts, fuses, and a light bulb!

I wanted to remove the entire glovebox assembly, but it appears to be glued to the panel that separates the trunk from the cockpit. Would it have come loose if I had removed the phillips head screws on both sides?

All four of my retainers and the screw heads were painted. Seems odd since the SS trim/fasteners would have been installed after the painting was complete.

I don't think so...unless the bond to the panel failed. I don't remember if I tried to remove mine, but it has never been out of the car.

Maybe not. The retainers are designed to cam into a locked position, so they could be installed before paint and just tightened to install the trim. My '59 (assembled Dec. '58) only had the bottom two installed before paint...go figure.
