I need to repair my 69 coupe's quarter trim panels. However, I can not tell from observing or AIM how the the rear window lower trim is attached in order to access the quarter panel screws underneath. The AIM indicates 2 screws, but do not see them. Can someone enlighten me on removal of the lower window trim? Much obliged.

Re: 69 rear window moulding
It sounds like your rear quarter trim panel has been removed improperly, and then reinstalled over the top of the end screw in the rear window molding where it can't be seen. If that's the case, then you'll have to remove the quarter panel first to access the rear window molding screw.
For the coupe, there's a step in the end of the rear quarter panel where it curves to meet the rear window trim...the rear window molding fits into and on top of that step; i.e. the trim panels should be installed first, and then rear window molding.Last edited by Chuck S.; February 17, 2011, 10:50 AM.- Top

Re: 69 rear window moulding
Chuck-Thanks for your post. I should clarify, the window moulding trim IS mounted OVER the quarter trim panels. I am pretty sure it has never been removed as my Dad was the only owner and don't know that he would ever have had reason to remove it.
What I can not tell is HOW the window moulding is mounted. Are there screws? It almost looks like Velcro type mounting or something. As the original materials are pretty brittle, I don't want to push it. Thanks.- Top

Re: 69 rear window moulding
If your 69 AIM shows there should be screws, and there are no screws, then I have no idea. There are three versions of this molding from 68-77...I would be surprised if 68-72 didn't use the same molding, but I learn something every day.
There should be no DOUBT about the screws if they are there. If the molding has screws, they will be clearly visible; chrome-plated countersinking crown head phillips screws with trim washers.Last edited by Chuck S.; February 17, 2011, 04:02 PM.- Top

Re: 69 rear window moulding
Chris,
I have an early 69 (built in Nov 68) and there are no screws in the vinyl molding below the rear window. The trim is held in place by those plastic velcro type fasteners like the ones holding the door panels. They should come off, but be careful since it is probably brittle after 40+ years.- Top

Re: 69 rear window moulding
Thanks for the educational info, George.
Mid-thread, I wondered if this was possibly an early car with a molding design carryover from 68 (which I know nothing about). The 69 AIM would likely reflect only final late configurations.- Top

Re: 69 rear window moulding
From the 1968-69 TI & JM
Coupe top interior panels and the rear halo panel are interior color molded vinyl. In 1968 and early 1969, the section beneath the real window is attached with interlocking plastic fasteners (Velcro-like) on the back. In later 1969 models, this section is attached by two chrome cross-recess oval-head screws.- Top
