How do we identify the correct distributor cap for a 1956 Corvette? Any markings, configuration, etc. that will identify it as correct for a 56 Corvette?
Yeah, the only thing I could find out is that a D-305 P/N 1917247 was correct for my 879.
I bought an NOS Delco-Remy D-305 in the original white/orange/black cardboard tin box. It was identical in every way to the one that was still on my distributor after 24K original miles. Aside from the words "DELCO REMY MADE IN USA" in a circle type pattern inside the cap and the numbers 51, also inside the cap, all other identifiers were just little various shapes/flaws in the plastic from the mold.
I'm very interested to know if anyone can point anything out that I missed...

Ed -- my catalogs lead to the same conclusion as Alexander; ie the D-305 # 1917247. Here's one I have (although I'm not a C1 guy). No script on the outside top, but Delco Remy symbol on the inside. There's one on eBay right now, but seller's pic shows just the box, as the string has not been pulled.
