I could not find an answer in the archives. I have a mix of slotted and allen set screws on the radio and fan motor knobs on my 66 non-AC car. Which is correct, and are they judged? Are the available repros acceptable? Bill Gould

Re: 66 radio and blower knob set screws
In general, I'd say the answer is no. But, NCRS does not prohibit a judge from using his personal knowledge to assess factory originality outside the written text of our judging guide books. So, the actual answer is, "Maybe yes, maybe no."
I think you'll find most interior judges simply look for the knobs to visually represent known typical factory production and ignore the EXACT geometry of knob set screws.
Now, on the earlier Wonderbar radios, the restoration face plate and tuning push button knobs DO differ from factory originals and are known to have attaching set screw fixtures where factory original parts did NOT. Some of these differences CAN be seen with flashlight and mirror when looking closely through the front side of the radio.
I'm pretty sure there ARE some C1 interior judges who go the extra mile to check for this known difference between factory original and reproduction part configuration scoring accordingly...- Top

Jack -- don't know what the '66 manual says, but the '65 TIM&JG calls for slotted set screws to retain knobs (wiper, radio, fan).- Top
