Did 68 manual transmissions utilize transmission identification tags? Restoration guide says so but I cannot locate a tag for a 68 on any after market reseller parts inventory. I see them for the C2s but not for the C3s.

I appreciate the advice!

1968 transmissions had the tag attached to one of the side cover bolts.
In your case, the transmission part number would most likely have been 3915088 if the car is equipped with an M-20 and 3915091 if equipped with an M-21.

Several years ago at one of the Carlisle swap meets I bought a "3952659 WB" tag for my 70 Camaro SS350 w/Muncie 4 speed for $5 from a guy who buys, sells, and rebuilds manual transmissions. He had at least 30 or 40 different tags on a wire. Since they were so cheap I bought all of his 3952659 tags (about 4 or 5). His name is Larry Fisher of D & L Transmissions in Long Island, NY. He might have the correct tag for your car.
I have a M20, so part # would be 3915088 according to Joe's post. I've attached pics of both passenger and driver side casting #s. btw, I'll be getting a bolt kit to fix issue with mis-matched bolts on side plate.
