    Alternator 1967 L-79 Date

My car is a c60 a/c-p/b p/s L-79 a.i.r. car built Nov 15th 1966. Part number1100750 on the alt. My question is how long before the build date is ok? I found an aug. 1966. If I ever do get it good enough to be judged I dont want to buy the wrong alt. Is three months ok?

    Tom,

Someone will correct me if I am wrong but NCRS allows a six month window for parts dating. I think three months is OK and probably pretty typical.

      Tim,

Mine was within two weeks of assembly. Take a look at the other post on the pulley.

I think the 6 month window is correct.

        Tom,

The 6 month rule by the NCRS is for judging purposes. I have studied Chevrolets, Corvettes, Camaros, and other GM car date codes for all kinds of parts at junk yards, etc., and have found that date codes are generally in most cases within a month or less of the assembly date. I think that it is an extremely rare occasion when a date code is 3, 4, 5, or 6 months before the cars assembly date. The exception may be a rare option like the 427 engine or if a car had serious problems on the assembly line and it had to be pulled off until they had some spare time to make corrections.

        The original alternator in my 1966 Corvette (Feb. 24, 1966) with 300 HP and 4-speed is stamped "1100693", "37A", and "6 B 17" (Feb. 17, 1966).

In your case I believe that the 1100750 alternator was rarely used on the assembly line so the 3 month difference would probably be appropriate.
