Does anyone have a view on why the Black/ Tan 1967 convertable Sat. night did not sell? Bid was $70,000. Other than being an automatic, looked like a really nice car.

Re: Mecum Kissimee Saturday Night
If I heard correctly on the TV, that car had A/C, P/S, P/B etc., loaded up 67 and I would assume the reserve was not met and the owner did not want to sell for the 70,000 bid.- Top

Re: Mecum Kissimee Saturday Night
Good points Timothy, and it was also a small block , although the options did meet my unique interests. . I thought the interior looked very nice but a little "different" . But I'm certainly no expert on '67 saddle interiors. Also, I'm sure the black looks unrealistically striking under those tv lights. Would have liked to have seen it in person. There was also a ton of junk there that brought a lot more than $70 k.- Top

Re: Mecum Kissimee Saturday Night
Yes, and how about the 78 P.C. going for $39.k. We looked it over very well and it had many issues, incl; wrong T-Tops, no carpet on back of seats and engine paint overspray where it should not be, painted mufflers, etc. Believe cars prepared for and in receipt of NCRS judging would fair much better.
We also looked at several "body off" 63's that were touted as fully restored 340 hp's. Under their hoods told the story; lots of incorrect accessories. Again, they went for top dollar, but would need lots of help to bring them up to NCRS standards.

Re: Mecum Kissimee Saturday Night
Saturday night there were a number of big name Super Stock cars that were on the block at the Mecum auction. I didn't record the exact numbers but none of them sold even though they got into the $200,000 range. Well here is why they didn't sell!
From the March 2011 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines page 85. Note these comments are made before last weekends auction.
"In January 2007, Grumpy's Toy XI sold at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale for $525,000. ...Grumpy's Toy VIII, a 1970 1/2 Camaro, will also be up for grabs. To our knowledge, the Camaro last changed hands at Mecum's Belvidere High Performance Auction in May 2007 for $504,000. ... Mecum is also offering up the Sox and Martin 1971 Hemi 'Cuda Pro Stock car that Ronnie Sox drove to 14 NHRA wins during the '71 season. Pre-sale estimates? Back in 2007, it sold for $929,000."
Now you know the rest of the story.

Re: Mecum Kissimee Saturday Night
Jim;
I don't think you can compare the NASCAR race cars, with very little recent history except that Earnhardt Jr. or Harvick drove the cars in a race or two, to a drag racing car that has a stunning history in competition from "back in the day". Then too, there are probably a lot more NASCAR cars out there that look alike (same livery) and may come to the auctions sometime in the future, specially to be sold for a charity. Heck, I even drove a #29 Harvick car in a Richard Petty driving experience last year.
I thought the Earnhardt #8 did sell for $200k.

Re: Mecum Kissimee Saturday Night
I get the L-88 confused with the ZL-1. We saw so many cars. What color was it?
Tom;
It's amazing how a little free Libation can effect the bidding, or it may be just another one that found a home in UAE.
