I decided to rework my new repro antenna so the third section would move as the original. I used the excellent story in the Spring 2010 Restorer as my go by. My antenna was not built like the unit shown in the Restorer article as mine did not have the brass knob on the end and the bottom 2 inches of my mast was made of brass, not chrome like the mast in the article. Apparently more than one source of repro antennas. The repro connection pin pulls out with vice grips. I could not find a ball valve washer so used a nylon washer and ground it down to size on bench grinder. To keep the nylon washer from falling off bottom of mast, drilled hole at extreme end mast, inserted the nylon washer, then inserted a pop rivet shank through the hole, pinged the shank and that held the washer in place. The problem caused by the 2 inch brass portion of the mast is friction against the pop rivet used to make the connection pin (see article). The author's mast was all chrome so the mast slid freely across the pop rivet connection pin. Mine mast slides, but not smoothly due to the brass section of the mast. I did accomplish the task and the third section now moves a couple of inches, just not smoothly. I am working on ideas to rework the pop rivet-based connection pin so that it slides across the brass section of the mast.
