Non-Power Power Brakes

I'm back! Thanks for the help in solving the binding accelerator linkage problem.

New issue: my 327/350 4-speed apparently has power brakes, but they aren't working properly. When the pedal is depressed, I can hear what seems to be a vacuum hose trying to 'suck' something. The sound seems to come from just behind the dash. A cursory look under the hood doesn't show anything out of the ordinary and the noise from the engine prevents me from hearing the sound.

Any ideas?

That's normal - it's air rushing in through the power valve to occupy the void behind the main diaphragm; there should be a circular foam filter there to minimize the noise, which has probably crumbled to dust.
