I recently acquired a 64 coupe that has some rust holes along the drivers side lower windshield support/birdcage. I noticed that paragon has a replacement piece that is available already spot welded together. Has anyone had any experience with this type of repair. The nose is off and I am going to pull the windshield and interior. This seems to give plenty of access. Gary

Paragon probably gets those pieces from Gary Crump (Caledonia Classics, Belding, Michigan); Gary has had ALL of the midyear windshield frame stampings tooled up, and supplies them zinc dichromate-plated for corrosion protection. They're available as just the outer, just the inner, or as spot-welded assemblies.- Top

Re: 1964 Coupe windshield frame rust
Thanks John;
I'll contact them directly. From what I can see, I think just the lower inner will need to be replaced. It appears water was leaking under the moulding on the drivers side but no other signs of rust. All body mounts, as well as the frame are rust free.The outers and upper look solid.

Re: 1964 Coupe windshield frame rust
I just had that done, but the rust damage to my birdcage was extreme, so along with that, we had to pull the front part of the roof, because the rust had actually kinked the fiberglass. Both drip rails and extensions were replaced, then both lock pillars removed, and the metal behind those had to be repaired. All glass on the car was pulled, along with the front end.
I also purchased new fiberglass lock pillars & a new left side fiberglass hinge pillar. There were a few spots on the inside of the lower windshield, so he cut the bad stuff out & fabricated new pieces.- Top

Gary;
Wow, that is a major project. In regards to access to the lower windshield support that was fabricated. Is there enough room with the nose and windshield off or will we have to cut out some fibergla. Also, would you have any pictures.
