Aren't they always on the drivers side due to the tach drive cable?

Air box cars were moved to the right side to clear the air box and fresh air hose. Or at least that what I thought, but this one seems to clear it okay. Regardless, it certainly is a very rare and beautiful car. Maybe a 57 expert can clarify the generator mounting. -Dan-

Michael, AC 8000 rpm air box tachs are distributor driven.

Ah, that's kinda what I thought, but wasn't sure. So then, why is generator on the left side in this car? -Dan-

Uh-oh, maybe this car is a fraud?

The 1967 red/red 427/435 Corvette conv.( lot #214) was the real deal when it was here in Richmond, Va. Knew the original buyer.

                  Guys,

Looks correct to me. No passenger side mounted generator and regulator airbox cars have ever been verified. AIM RPO579 sheet 1.02 drawing is not correct. Airbox equipped 57's are pretty much the same engine configuration as regular 283 HP FI engine, except the regulator's moved and plus the addition of the airbox, heavy duty suspension and brakes.

This info's in the 5th edition 56-7 JM.

                  Gary

I remember the car when it was featured in Vette magazine in the 80s. I wanted the car in the worst way. There is no doubt its the real deal. My friend requested pad pictures, its an older restamp. I will be curious to see how it and the others do.

I'm watching the auction now, prices seem really strong. The 57 airbox sold for 340K and the 67 435 brought 160K plus 10% buyers premium.

Just left and the prices are unreal. On a good day the 67 wouldn't 2nd flight and needs repainted. We estimated it @ $85K. Oh, & you forgot the 7% GA sales tax!

Ken, other than the pad how was the rest of the car? I take it that the paint needed attention but were the dated components correct?

The Corvette prices are sucking wind, the 1969 Pontiac Judge Ram Air IV just hammered for $260k.

Dick, 340K plus fees is a good price for an airbox car. As for the 435, from Kens reaction plus seeing a picture of the pad, I think that it did pretty well too. I think with just two Corvettes in this auction that Corvette buyers may not have shown up. The prices at McDormans auction last week were in my opinion strong considering the condition those cars were in.
