Thinking about buying an Indy Pace Car Vette (not sure of year yet). Question, which years did the pace cars have the decals (graphics) installed at the factory? I know I can probably check the judging manuals, but I really don't want to buy a bunch of them just to see. Basically I want to decide whether I should purchase one with the decals on them or not for flight judging purposes.

Re: Pace Car question
Terry (or anyone), what would be the deduction for non-factory details? The two TIM&JG that I own don't have pace cars during those years.- Top

Re: Pace Car question
Boy now it gets tough. I only know about the 1978 (don't ask why), and I know very little of that. I will have to ask around before I put something in writing on the deduction -- and no I don't have a copy of that TIM&JG.
I might be able to find someone who knows though.Terry- Top

Re: Pace Car question
If you are asking what the deduction is for 78 Pace Car decals installed. I believe the deduct is 10.
You asked whick ones had decals installed at the factory. The 78's of course did not. The 86 door decals were shipped in the cars. ( Keep in mind ALL 1986 convertibles were considered pace cars, even though the real deal was a yellow one )
95's had the ribbon decals factory installed, but the date and "Official Pace Car" decals were shipped inside the car in a special box.
The 98 pace car decals were factory installed. Not sure if there were any dates or extra door decals shipped in the car. I'll check. Yes, the Official Pace Car decals were shipped boxed in the trunk.
Of course there was a 2003 Pace car, but no official replica was offered to dealers. many decal sets were made available to the public though and installed by the owner.
The 07's were the orange convertibles and I can't remember if we put the door crest on those or if they were factory installed. I think they were. I'll have to check my notes on that one for you. The ribbon stripes were factory installed for sure. I think the ones at the bottom of the door that said "Official Pace Corvette" were shipped boxed in the trunk.
The last dealer replica was the 08. I sold several of those and believe all decals were installed when they left factory.Last edited by Tom H.; October 12, 2010, 07:22 AM.Tom Hendricks

Re: Pace Car question
Tom, it looks like you have helped me to narrow it down to the 95 and 98 pace cars (which I was thinking about before anyway). The 78s did not have the decals installed at the factory, the 86s are really in another category of pace car authenticity (for lack of a better word) with the same decal issue, and the 03s and later won't be available for NCRS flight judging for quite some time. Basically I am thinking about my next NCRS project (after my 95 has run its course). Thanks.- Top

Re: Pace Car question
I always liked the 95 too. I remember picking up nearly a dozen of them from the speedway after the race. All track cars. Had a whole building full of them. Used them one year for the homecoming parade. Looked pretty neat !! Should have taken some pictures !!!Tom Hendricks
