1967 VIN Number and Trim Tag

    Hi,

I am from NJ, but I am in Sarasota Florida on business and will be looking at two 1967 Corvettes for sales there (I have never owned a mid-year). If I like either of these cars, I would like to have a NCRS judge, or a highly knowledgeable mid year corvette person, to look at the numbers on the engine block to make sure it's the original engine (not a re-stamp) and at the trim tag to make sure it's original and has not been replaced and re-riveted. I am willing to pay for this service. Is there anyone who can help me out on Friday (9/17) or Saturday (9/18)? Please provide your phone number if you can. I would really appreciate it.

    Hi Frank,

There is a list with all of the local NCRS Chapters here:

Here is the contact info for the NCRS Florida chapter:

    Phone: 352-394-6547

    Web: www.NCRSFL.org

You might give them a call to see if anyone is available (or if they recommend anyone) for the dates you will be there. Also, Dick Whittington is the Region IV Director, which includes Florida:

Al Grenning is the pro. A good high meg photo of the trim , and vin tag, and engine pad, emailed to Al may work as well. His email is ALGRENNING@aol.com and his phone is (315) 942-2352. He lives in upstate New York eastern time zone.

Take your time. Look at the car on a service rack ......drive the car........then pick the pepper out of the mashed potatoes.

There is a lot more to a vintage Corvette then "matching numbers". Factory and dealer paperwork (GENUINE ORIGINAL), and ownership history is the best Provenance along with ownership history.

Frank, it is very wise that you seek the advice of a pro before you actually buy a car. I have seen way too many people who have not done this only to be very dissappointed with their purchase. Good luck on your search.

James - so well said. You never know where one of these have been, unless you know.

Thank you all for your help. Dick Whittington e-mailed me and said he did not know anyone. I am waiting to hear from Ed Augustine and as of right now, I still have nobody to inspect the car this Friday or Saturday.
