    Brake Booster Rebuild

I contacted Dewey's Boosters about having the brake booster from my '61 rebuilt. They said if the brake master cynlinder has not been sleeved, it was suggested that I purchase a new master cylinder from them for $95 or have the existing master sleeved. They went onto say that if I did not follow this suggestion that brake fluid would eventually leak into the booster, and in a couple of years, I would have to have the brake booster rebuilt again. This is the first time the booster has been removed from the car, and sorry guys, the vehicle in question is not a vette (I do own a '66 and '04) but a '61 Starfire Oldsmobile. Are they providing me with solid advice, and thanks for the feedback.

    John -

Depends on the condition of the master cylinder bore; if it's the original 50-year-old master cylinder, the bore surface may be poor enough that it'll wear new seals out and result in a leak. If it is original and that matters to you, I'd consider having it sleeved rather than replacing it.

Look at it this way! Dewey could have kept his mouth shut, let the MC leak and charged you for another rebuild in a couple of years.

Looks like he's trying to save you money and give you some solid advise!

      Take the FREE advise!

Been dealing with Booster Dewey longer than MOST of these Corvette people have owned Corvettes and NEVER had a problem!

Booster Dewey did the booster in my 68 Corvette and was real decent to deal with.
I trust him and think he was being straight with you.
