    Trim Ring Clip removal/reinstall

One of the trim rings of the orange 72 has 2 broken clips. I have some clips from another ring to use to replace these, but can't seem to get the old broken clips out. The stainless appears to be well crimped (or possibly even spot welded? based on the appearance of the metal) around the clips. Using a pliers didn't work, nor a hammer with a screwdriver in an attempt to tap them out.

Is there a trick to removing them without damaging the ring?

I've never needed to do it. However, I don't think the stainless is spot welded, although I would not rule it out. However, the stainless is, as you say, "well crimped" and thick and hard enough that bending it back is VERY difficult. My guess would be that in trying to bend it back, if you're successful, you probably would distort the ring flange.

Patrick if the trim ring is an old original then the clips were electric resistance spot weld on to the inside ring. Service replacements had a few variations but the clips were a friction locked into a slot in the ring. Ether toward the outside of the ring or the inside.

Patrick, in the archives (somewhere) was a post on this very subject. I have removed/reinstalled trim ring clips so it can be done. I got tired of messing with them so I went with P02s.
