    St. Louis question

While adjusting the idle mixture this weekend on my 67 I was wondering what was the process used at St. Louis for carburetor adjustment.

Were the carbs sent from the suppliers preset and then left alone or were the carbs all adjusted afterwards ? If so how did they do it ?...was there a vac gauge or other equipment used or was it a repairman with the knack ?. thanks

    Re: St. Louis question

Engine was test run at Flint or Tonawanda without carb. A propane fixture was used to mimic fuel supply.

Carbs were shipped from their respective mfgr's tested/ready to go having been exercised and adjusted on a flow bench. Basically, the system was grab the appropriate carb from inventory and bolt it on...

The only attention the carburetor got at St. Louis was to tweak the curb idle speed setting if necessary; the carbs were bench-flowed at the supplier, including setting the idle mixture screws. If a car had erratic idle issues that couldn't be resolved with normal tune-up procedures, the carb came off and went back to the supplier for credit.
