    C3 Turn Signal Flasher - 552 vs 224

I just pulled an original 224 Triton flasher out of my 1974 as it was too fast. I bought a $2.99 (yes Chinese) Triton 552 flasher from a local auto supply store (Canadian Tire). It works perfectly?? Just curious, have the Chinese got it right?

I just had shrimp fried rice for dinner tonight. They got that right, but, they told me it would be ready in fifteen minutes and it wasn't.

        Hi,
Maybe that's why so many reproduction parts made in China leave me feeling so empty. No matter how difficult the part is to make they're always ready in 15 minutes.
        Regards,
        Alan

Sorry Paul. I've bought several brand new flashers from different manufacturers that've all worked perfectly in my 70, so I think your experience is pretty common.

If your flashers are similar to early Sharks you may be able to switch your original "can" to a new flasher body and then it'll look correct and work correctly, too. Good luck

The 224 flasher is load sensitive. The blink rate varies with the specific resistance characteristics of lamps you've installed in the car as well as the number of lamps. Designers did that intentionally, so you'd know when a lamp was out (blink rate would change).

The 552 flasher was originally designed for emergency flasher applications and is lamp profile/lamp number independent. That allows it to drive a variable number of lamps and keep the same blink rate.

I suspect that's why you're seeing what you do. The 552 belongs in your fuse block receptical to power the 4-way flasher circuit and NOT in the TS flasher position...
