Would someone please describe, or better yet, post a picture of a an original 1955 oil pan. I know it is unique to 1955, however, I have nothing here at home to refer to.

Yes, the pan was unique to 1955. However, it was not unique to Corvette. It was used for all 1955 V-8 applications except MD truck. It was GM #3704925 and was discontinued without supercession in December, 1971.
By the way, I believe this was a "2 step" pan unlike later C1 pans that were "3 step" (except, possibly, early 1956).

Reason: Add second paragraph.

Photos below show the '55 oil pan; the B&W one is clipped from a shot taken on the Flint V-8 shipping dock in 1955, and the color one is a Chevrolet Engineering-restored '55 V-8.
