As my search for a L-72 car continues, have another question. I ordered the 66' judging guide, but have not received it yet. There is a Blue/Blue car on the auction site that has a build date of June 22 66,' the block casting date is March 9th 66'. I don't have any good pictures of the engine pad stamp yet, but looks a little suspect to me. From what I have seen, that is a pretty large spread between the casting date and engine assembly date. Is that within the acceptable range, or would it be pretty abnormal to see that spread?

This is one example. It is difficult to explain the date gap and and to define normal. The six month rule applies; unless you have a first month production car with a new part number.

That casting to completion sounds unusual to me, but it is within the 6 month window for NCRS. You might want to check in Noland's book the survey data at the end of the '66 section to see a larger section of examples.

Re: 66' L-72 Casting date Question
Yes, thats what I thought too. I reviewed the info in Nolands book and there were all within a month of each other.Last edited by Robert C.; July 24, 2010, 10:40 PM.- Top

Re: 66' L-72 Casting date Question
Robert, for the 427's in 1966, we are seeing almost 3 months on block cast to engine stamp, but engine stamp to car build date is REAL tight.
p.s. the red one one that just popped on the auction site is as risky as it gets.- Top

Re: 66' L-72 Casting date Question
Louisville, KY, listed on the auction site now. There are 2 engine stamp pad pics on the listing, but they are of poor quality. If you take a look, let me know what you think of the engine stamp pad too.Last edited by Robert C.; July 24, 2010, 10:14 PM.- Top
