Re: 69 hood jamb paint/ blackout
I'm getting ready to Jamb my car and have some questions. Was the inside of the inner lip of the hood side jamb painted or blacked out?
Both. The entire underside of the hood was painted body color. Then, the underside of the hood was blacked out. Judges expect to see exterior color on the outside lower lip of the hood, generally running from the outside edge to the hood's reinforcement panel. The parting line is known to have been 'factory sloppy' and does NOT follow the reinforcement panel in where it deviates from a straight line to skirt the hood hinges.
Go look at a few originals before you attempt to duplicate the blackout. Plus, expect an originality deduction if you use masking tape to make a RAZOR edge perfect parting line...
Also was the hood cowl jamb at firewall was blacked out from corner to corner?
No, the blackout line stopped just short of extending all the way to the RH and LH outer edges. Again, factory original work is generally thought to be a little 'fuzzy' where it comes to where the blackout lines end...- Top

Re: 69 hood jamb paint/ blackout
Hi Brad,
Here are some pictures of the hood and 'gutter' from my 71. You can see how roughly the black-out was done.
We saw a BowTie car last week that had the gutter in front of the wiper bay with one straight color break (as shown in my picture) and one on a distinct angle!
Hope these pictures help you.
Regards,
Alan
Sorry Brad, the pictures didn't copy, I'll try again afte supper!Last edited by Alan S.; July 19, 2010, 07:26 PM.71 Coupe, 350/270, 4 speed

Re: 69 hood jamb paint/ blackout
Hi Brad,
Yes it was on my 71.
These pictures are from a low mileage 71 at the Charlotte Convention.
I'd think your 69 would be similar.
