How to tell if its a matching #'s car?
Im looking at a 78 pace car that has been restored. How can I tell if its a matching numbers car? Can anyone help me?,, Thanks dwf 44087

That's a loaded question, but if you are trying to verify the engine stamping matches the VIN you will see the stamping on the right ( pass ) side of the block near where the water pump bolts on. You'll see a little pad with numbers stamped on it. The assembly date and partial VIN should appear there. If you ask 10 people for the definition of 'matching numbers', you'll get 12 different answers plus the comment that everyone else's answer is wrong.
There's hundreds of numbers on a car, very few people check all of them. Tom has mentioned how to check the most obvious one.Comment

You will also want to be sure the digit following the S in the VIN is a 9 to verify it is a true pace car. Also the trim tag should indicate tu tone paint 19/47.
