    C1 ('58) to C2 ('67) Which oil filter cartridge to use ?

Here's a previous link discussing how the replacements for GM PF-141 are not what they used to be. Strong recommendations were given for Baldwin P18, so I went out and bought one (only $7.88 Cdn + 50cents enviornmental (recycle) fee + 5% fed tax. --- pretty cheap in my ledger).

Pic below compares the Baldwin and a Fram; both have metal end caps, the Baldwin has a smaller composite paper gasket at the hole. It's made in USA. The Fram has a wider plastic gasket at the hole.

The Fram CH 200 PL is made in Mexico, but this one has a metal outer casing [bought this a few years ago, so the currently available might be different]. Is this a plus ?

So which one should I use ?

Wayne, I think the baldwin it looks like it can flow more oil through the filter. as the fram only has limited amount of holes around the filter.

It also come down the filters ability to capture the contaminates measured in microns. I think Duke could give you the low down on just what the spec.s would be,as far as how many microns is best as to compare with the factory ones.

I will say that Baldwin filters have been around for more than a few decades.

I also think that with the quality of everything automotive today you have to know whats good and what isn't , manuf. of parts are from all parts of the world today, I think that those companys that have stuck it out in the U.S. still have something to say about quality and quality control. Just my two cents being in the trade I see whats out there.

Where on earth did you find that Fram filter? I haven't seen one with metal end caps in many years. That's why I use Wix or Baldwin filters. I thought maybe they started making the good ones again so I ran up top the local parts store. Here's a pic. of the most recent Fram filter which is why I quit using them years ago (too much cardboard) -
