Anyone know of a source for black anodized radiator hose clamps that are correct for my '84? The orig. mfgr. was likely Wittek but according to what I'm able to find they had some financial issues a few years ago and are in business but do not list these style clamps. I'll be replacing my original hoses and if the factory clamps are suspect, or even not, I'd like to have a spare set.

Re: source for anodized black rad hose clamps
I checked out the thread indicated but it seems that all the clamps Ideal manufactures are stainless and not black anodized. I was recently able to obtain some correct size Ideal clamps of the stainless variety and did my own 'black anodize' paint on them but was hoping to find something more correct. The judging manual lists Wittek as a brand found on original examples but perhaps Ideal was also a player. When I bring the car in for the coolant flush, etc. I'll have the dealer check his inventory for anything that might be close as well. This is an older established dealership, so the possibility of having some odball clamps around would exist.- Top

I don't know what imparts the black coloration to these clamps but I don't think it's anodize. Anodizing is a process used primarily for aluminum. I don't think it will work for stainless steel. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: source for anodized black rad hose clamps
Walter,
You may want to give Contemporary Corvette a call. www.contemporarycorvette.com They specialize in C4 parts-huge inventory, great web site to look at (sad to see so many wrecks). They are located in PA, I have delt with them for my 88 and happy with using them. Tell them what you need / send pic and they will pull the clamps for you and ship.
Good luck

Re: source for anodized black rad hose clamps
Joe,
I tried to replicate the anodized look with some rattle can paint described as 'anodize black'. The judging manual says these were originally that configuration so short of finding correct replacements I'll try to duplicate the look. (Maybe the original clamps were aluminum not stainless steel?)
Pat,
I will try Contemporary Corvette.
Thanks...- Top

I've never seen a screw-type hose clamp that was made of aluminum. They're either plain steel or stainless steel. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: source for anodized black rad hose clamps
Joe,
I would agree the clamps are likely not aluminum. Not sure where the black anodizing described comes into play then if it can only be applicable to aluminum. The anodized look is a kind of blue-black from what I know it to be and hard to duplicate with paint. I'll see what Contemporary Corvette comes up with...- Top
