car looked fine in the pictures, but they can lie, under the hood didn't look so good to me, keep in mind that when you go to sell this car that a base motor, automatic, t top is not necessarily the most desirable vet out there, depends on the price and what you have in mind for the car.- Top

Re: Would like some opinions on this 73 on eBay
Being an L48 auto coupe, this puts the car at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to performance and value. I would pass on it for those reasons alone. On the other hand, AC, PS, PB and PW all help the value and appeal as a cruiser.
Seems to be fairly unmolested and even the AIR system and EGR are still intact. The brake master cylinder and cap are from a later car, the ignition shielding is mostly missing as is the rubber seal from the top of the air cleaner. As noted by the seller, the exhaust system is not correct (including the tips) and is kind of funky looking to me. The valve covers can easily be replaced with the stock components, but I note they have been clumsily repainted and apparently the stamp pad had to be 'scraped' to be read. This infers that some engine work has been done but at just under 100,000 miles that's not unusual. Passenger side mirror is not original but is a useful add on.
Other things:
The rear of the car sits very high. Incorrect replacement spring is the usual culprit.
Front grills are from a '74. Why were they replaced? Front end damage?
Cracked front bumper means certain replacement will be needed shortly. Look at $500-700 to do it properly
Both seat belts are missing the end boots and both lap belts show signs of rust stains. Ruh-roh. This is indicative of water ingress and pooling under the seats. All C3s leak (mine's a 2 toweler) but I would want to know the condition of the birdcage and would factor in a least $400 for properly restored seat belts.
The spare tire tub has been painted. Why?
Definitely worth having a closer look, but get hold of someone local that really knows C3s.- Top

The paint looks nice in the pictures so you need and in person look. The seller has a good feedback. The cars engine with smog in place usally is in a well kept car. To score well in NCRS would take some work in all areas. Nice starter car if in person look is like the pics. I agree wih Mike and think most of the chassis was blacked out. Grills are painted 73's.Last edited by Harmon C.; May 15, 2010, 10:55 AM.Lyle

Glen,
Mike gave some great observations and pointed out several things that will affect collectability and resale. But he also made an excellent point...the car will make a good cruiser and driver.
Less than $9,000 would be a good price for this car, that's right in line with what it is. That allows you to put some money into it and not lose your shirt if you decide to sell it. Numbers matching "correct" specimens in similar condition (or a little nicer) are going for around $13-14k.

If you can live with the paint job on this car and not repaint it that is 6-9K so it makes this car a good deal. Getting a vett painted is a headache as those painters all spent too much time in the fumes. Four month estimates take two years.Lyle
