In the latest Driveline it stated that "By the time you read this message, the first NCRS Foundation Scholarships will have been awarded." Does anyone know who won? Is this something they "announce", or publish somewhere?
Lynn
Terry,
It is NOT over, just the given out for the first time, and I believe it is something that is planned on going on for years to come thanks to the generosity of the members of the NCRS. They are currently taking applications for the 2010/2011 academic year (see the latest driveline at the top of the page). This application and the process has been around for a while now. I expect it to become more recognized and popular as time goes by. My daughter applied, and we never heard anything, so I was just wondering WHO were the very lucky recipients. This is a VERY WORTHY full scholarship, as I am sure everyone will agree.

Lynn,
Might I suggest reaching out to Joan Burnett NCRS#2731, she is leading the program.
Check the membership list her name is listed.
The above link should get you pages 1-10 of the March-April driveline...at least right now anyway. Page 6 talks about the program and how you can get involved as an NCRS Foundation contributor. Page 7 talks about guidelines & process. Page 8 & 9 contain the scholarship application for 2010-2011 academic year.
My daughter Nora applied in January for the 2009/2010 school year and was awarded a general scholarship last month. The awards will be announced at the National Convention I believe. We would like to thank the NCRS foundation very much.

Stewart,
Congratulations to your daughter Nora, she is very lucky to have received this and I am certain very deserving. How did you find out they would be announcing at the National? I see you have been a member for a long time, and I would like to thank you for providing the most information I have been able to find out about the memberships awarded. Not taking anything away from the winners, but seems the process is somewhat secretive for something they are soliciting the memberships to contribute to.
Thanks for the update,
Lynn
Lynn,
This is a new program so the announcement of this years scholarship came out late in the school year. I didn't have any "inside information", I read about it in the winter issue of the driveline and encouraged Nora to apply. She was notified in March of the award and the letter said the winners would be acknowledged at the National Convention in July.
Lynn, the NCRS Foundation information was published multiple times during 2009 both in the Restorer and Driveline. Joan Burnett announced the awarding of scholarships in her Foundation article in Driveline Issue 190 Nov-Dec 2009 on page 10. Gary....
Seems everyone is missing the point. I am not asking about applying for scholarships, my daughter also applied. What I was looking for was WHO was awarded the scholarships. Besides Stewart, no one has stepped up with any information on where the membership would be able to see the award winners. Seems kind of odd that the only way is to ask on the TDB, and then receive only marginal information.
Lynn
The next issue of The Driveline, currently in the mail has the announcement of the winners. (page 6). That way the entire membership can see the announcement, not just the 500 or so members that visit the TDB.
Thanks you for your interest and sorry I have not replied sooner, just not on the Tech Board frequently. As Vinnie indicated, the article indicating the scholarship receipients is coming out in the May/June Driveline. Here is a portion of the announcemnet along with the names of the receipients including their sponsor information. Joan Burnett
It is with great pleasure that I announce the recipients of the first NCRS Foundation Scholarships. These scholarships are being awarded for the 2009-2010 school year. The recipients will be recognized at the Annual Membership Meeting during the National Convention in July in Charlotte, NC.

Vinnie,
Not really sure what your point is. I just looked and as of now there is something like 5329 members who use the TDB (what I believe to be almost a third of the current membership), not that that has anything to do with my original post. I never asked or suggested that the information be published here, or anywhere else. I was asking if it was going to be announced or published at all, and if so where. If you want to bring numbers into it, I could throw out a few, but I do not believe that would benefit anyone. All I wanted to know was if this information was going to be made available to the membership, and where. Seems this type of information is something that maybe should have been included in one of those earlier Drivelines, so I did not have to ask. I'm sure that is part of the learning curve getting something like this up and running.
And Joan,
Thanks for your post with the award winners (and congratulations to all of them), but not really the type of reply I expected from the PM I sent to you, after being encouraged to do that by one of the posters in this thread. All in all, the information I was looking for is now posted in this thread, but seems it would have been much easier for SOMEONE to answer that the information was coming out in the next Driveline, or even say in some of the many announcements on the scholarships how, where, or when this was going to be made known. Not so much to me (because I did not apply), but to all the people who did apply.
Thanks again,
Lynn
