Many GM flywheels were nodular iron, including the one originally installed for L-78 applications. However, that flywheel was, nominally, 12-3/4" OD. Although not the same as the 1965 L-78, a 12-3/4" flywheel was used for all 1963-68 Corvette small blocks as well as many other Chevrolet applications. While the 1107352 starter, a high torque unit, was not used for any of these small block applications, the same starter nose was used on starters for those applications.

As far as big blocks go, the 12-3/4" flywheel was used only for 1965 L-78 and 1967-69 L-88.

I wasn't thinking fly wheel. The clutch and pressure plate is where the 11 inch measurement came from. The fly wheel was the 12 1/2 inch measurement as you stated. Thanks for all the input. Now the new chase begins for the correct starter, again.
Any good leads would be appreciated.

11" clutches were used only with 14" flywheels. 14" flywheels were never originally used for 1965 L-78.
