Hi, picked up the original smog system for my 68 Barn Find. The original owner found it in his basement last week. It's a real late (Aug 68) car. It is an L79 AC car. Everything on the smog set up is right, except the diverter valve is stamped 24765 on the flange. Again, this system was taken off by the original owner (I'm the second owner) and stored for at least 35 yrs. Was it possible late 68's came with this diverter? It has the "DH" broadcast code. Thanks for any help. Stay safe, john

Re: 68 L79 Smog Question
John,
Good information on smog is hard to find.
See if this article which actually deals with Camaro systems is of any help to you: www.camaros.org/emissions.shtml
I have a 67 with smog and found there are lots of similarities between the parts and the numbers used Corvette and the Camaro systems.- Top

Re: 68 L79 Smog Question
Thanks, I checked the site and it indicates this was good for early 68 Z 28's.....strange. I know this guy would have a reason t change the diverter as the whole system was yanked off very early on.......Thanks for the response. take care- Top

I do not think that the "usual" stamped number seen on 1968 diverter valves was the only one used. In this case, the "DH" code identifies it as the proper valve for 1968 small block applications. So, as long as the valve is configured correctly for the application (which was unique to 1968 small block applications) AND has the "DH" code, then I'd say whatever number is stamped on the valve, the valve is correct for the 1968 Corvette small blocks. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 68 L79 Smog Question
thanks guys.........i forget off hand the JG's number for the 68 SB (28469??)......this one threw me a bit. It loks like the same diverter. Has the correct later muffler with the clamp as opposed to the earlier 68's that is pressed on. ...can't find my JG right now. Thanks again!
