I usually use the Eastwood Silver Cad product. A light dusting so it's not too shiny and it's usually good protection.

For the judged cars, I would suggest removing the mount brackets(drill out the rivets), replate at a outside shop, and reinstall using the same style rivet. It's hard to see under there so there could be other methods like small bolts. Depends how authentic you need to be.
