C1 under body plates or brackets.

What is the correct finish on the steel brackets (seat nut plates, seat belt hardware, gas tank strap plates, etc) on the bottom of C1 cars, specifically 1959?
I have seen some plain steel, some painted and some possibly black phosphate.
The judging manuals do not specify anything but possibly I missed it.
    Thanks.

Bruce, I'm not in the shop at the moment(raining cats n' dogs here in FL) but when I get out there I'll check my 59 and my buddy's 59 we're restoring. I recall they're plain steel because I think there's surface rust on them...........but I could be wrong. I'll get back to you.

Bruce, Not definite in the photos. Hard to tell. The resto 59 pictured, next post has a few from my 59. Both built Feb 59.

Very dirty, but body has never been off the frame on either car before......

It appears the inner seat belt reinforcements are painted black over bare steel. I used a little solvent and black paint came off the inner as you may see. The little seat track reinforcements are a bit dirty too, but I think they're black. The gas tank strap reinforcement pieces appear black painted bare steel. I carefully scraped the dirt away and seems like some paint under the 51 year old dirt. The tank strap looks like black phosphate, no light scraping removed it.

Bruce- I believe that all of the underbody underplates were cadmium plated from the factory. I think the repro ones are zinc plated. Mike

I bought seat and gas tank plates for my 57 from CC. They were painted black. Originals were so rusty the finish was gone. -Dan-

Mike, Yellow or silver cad? I saw no evidence of yellow on these underbody brackets on this 59. Items like the decklid latch hardware and hood male latch plates, pins, and cups are yellow. In fact, most of the small chassis bolts are yellow cad too. i.e. muffler hanger attach bolts, front brake cable clamp bolts, etc.

No evidence of cad on my unrestored '59 inboard and outboard seat belt reinforcement plates.
