It's a great event - especially when Bill Warner's fertile mind creates topics from A to Z - nobody into automobiles gets left out.
I'm resonably sure that, except for those who own a Cuban race car, Bill Warner was one of the few that realized that it was 50 years since the last Cuban race.
Add to that a Garlits front engine dragster, the Smokey Yunick side-car Indy car, a grouping of Forgotten Fiberglass - including one found in SoCal that they haven't been able to name yet! - and much, much more and you have quite a show.
And then, of course, we have the Dumbass Award - consisting of any and all folks who took pictures of one of Lucky Casner's "I beat GM out of 2 Corvettes and some $$" Corvettes. Yes, folks, the DA in question is yours truly, having left his Camera in a motel in Kingsland GA on Sunday AM.
DA is NOT part of the e-mail address, but it may appear in the future. I'd appreciate copies of any photos sent as an attachment to loren.lundberg@cox.net.
By the way, the crowd seems to like straight pipes!
John, I think the first trip was just a parade of the Cuban cars. I now understand the director of the Cuban Auto Museum was present on his first trip to the USA. He had apparently worked as a course sweeper in the 1960 race
The second trip was perhaps just to see if the car would start again! There was a mailfunction of the micro switch and it got disconnected, so no "enrichment" for startup. I think the second trip was for the Cuban class; I suspect that because the Cuban Ferraris and Birdcages were slated for other awards, the class award fell to the piece of plastique. Actually the invite made me go out and improve panel fit on the lower right trunk lid and on the strip between trunk and softtop lid on the left side.
On one of the trips, I think I heard (hard with straight pipes & in the car) the emcee indicate that the car "was always a race car" or words to that effect. Can those on hand verify this?
