    Headlight motor date code variance

    Hi,
    I just joined and this is my first time in the discussions. My 1964 was missing headlight motors when I bought it. Although I don't have any plan to eventually show the car I would like to restore it correctly. I have located 2 pairs of headlight motors, one pair with both dated 6-67, the other pair has one dated 6-63 and one dated 10-63. My car was assembled in December 63. A) Is the June 1963 motor (or the October motor for that matter) too early to have been correct for this car and B) would motor pairs have typically been produced during the same month?

    Thanks-Doug

    Doug;

    Welcome aboard. I'm sure others will chim in here shortly, but it is an interesting question. My 63 has both motors dated 6/63 and the car was built on July 9th. But, headlight motors are/were a very fragile component and I'm sure many were changed over the years. I rebuilt mine back in 1976.

    Should get some interesting comments on this.

      Doug,
      I believe it is like every other dated part, the six month rule applies. I had a 12/65 left motor and a much later dated than my build date right motor. So I bought another 12/65 from a friend. While looking for a couple of years (not in a hurry) a saw a lot of 12/65 motors which made me wonder if these things were made in batches.

        Thanks Stu and Peter. The NCRS is going to be a great source of information. I'm impressed. I will probably buy the 63 motors which fall within the 6 month window, even though the 66's are rebuilt.

          I had my headlight motors out last winter and never thought about date codes.

          Where should I be looking? Are the dates visible with motors installed?

            There is a pair of 1967 rebuilt motors listed for sale on E-bay now.

            http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT.

            There are some very nice photos associated with the ad. The date code appears in the photos. They are "8 67".
