tires are ordered will be in tomorrow, question about mounting..

On my 68 if you jack from the front on the cross member I know it will dent the frame there (it's slightly dented now from previous owner).

also at the rear you can't get to the pumpkin from the exhaust pipes being close together.

So, how do you guys let them mount new tires on your cars? Just tell them to jack it up on the frame right behind the front tire and just infront of the rear tire? or what?

    thanks

The owner's manual shows the jacking points.

We just use the hoist pads on the frame. Cover the pads with rags if your frame is nicely painted to prevent scratching it up.

Using suitably sized wood blocks on the jack puck, I never bent anything jacking up the front from the front cross member or the rear from the strut rod bracket.

Another option is to jack the whole side of the car up from the center cross member, but my '63 SWC has a solidly mounted body to frame connection, so the basic structure is a lot stiffer than later coupes with rubber cushion mounts and way more stiff than any of the convertibles.

With any year convertible I recommend only jacking up the car with the doors closed and do not open them until it's back on the ground or solidly supported with jackstands.

Brandon, I would not use the front crossmember on a C-3, they do bent with the floor jack, sometimes those tire guys do not know these older cars , maybe the C-2 is stronger. using the lower control arms for the front might be a better idea. and as Duke says with rear strut rod bracket will work fine.

My point exactly which is why I was asking where do you guys have them to jack the car up at.

anyway went by today and they put on the 255/60's but at full lock they rubbed the frame where the round bolt like head is and rubbed the paint off to a shinny finish..so told them to order 245/60's will have them put on tomorrow! so glad to get those ugly cooper cobras off!

Brandon, if they use floor jacks then just pick-up one cornor at a times using the rear section of the frame and front section of frame, my shop has a floor jack with a thick rubber pad which will not damage the frame, if you have something similiar bring with you, those metal pads that come with all floor jack with scratch the finish.

If they use a hyd. lift they should already have rubber pads on them, which is truely the better and easier way.you ask them to maybe even put shop rags under the pads to give added protection. Just explain about the cars recently restoration of the frame.
