    1961 Oil Dipstick

I just purchased a dipstick for a 1961 that was removed from a 1959 Corvette. I asked the normal questions, length of blade , distance to the full and add lines and is there an "M" on the blade. I just received the dipstick and everything is exactly the same as my original 1961 dipstick (different car) except for the "M" is on the handle and not the blade. What year dipstick did I receive?

    Thanks for any information!

It doesn't matter both are correct. The blade was from a long stock material and it depended where they cut it off . Also the the markings were stamped in . The logo is to tell what company made them and some don't have a logo but are still original.

          Ray,

Here are 4 different 3739830 dipsticks that I have owned. There were at least 3 different companies (and maybe even 4) that made dipsticks for the 58-63 Corvettes & Chevrolet trucks. I believe the dipstick with the "M" and "debossed" stamping (depressed) was the more one one used on the Corvettes.

              Roy,

No problem. There are other threads about 58-63 Corvette dipsticks. You should check those out. I have about 50 or so dipsticks from various 60's and early 70's Chevrolet models that I have collected over the past 30 or so years.

                    Roy,

I don't have a 55 dipstick but I have an original 56-57 Chevrolet & 56-57 Corvette (2nd Design) dipstick from a 1956 Chevrolet 265 engine. I believe it is GM # 3722959. The "ADD" and "FULL" stamping are EMBOSSED with the marks spaced 21/32" apart. There is also a small letter "E" stamped on the handle. The NORS 3722959 dipstick that I bought over the counter in Sept. 1989 has a large letter "B" stamped on the handle and the "ADD" and "FULL" marks are stamped NORMALLY with the marks spaced 1 1/32" apart. The distance from the "FULL" mark to the stopper measures the same on both 3722959 dipsticks, 19 1/2" or so. The "A" dimension in my 1963 parts catalog is 19 31/64" while the "B" dimension is 20 7/16". The NORS dipstick, however, has a longer handle and a longer stick.

                    Dave
