    Re: 65 engine date code?

    Tom -

Several things have to make chronological sense:

    1. The block casting date has to be prior to the engine assembly date stamped on the front pad.

    2. The engine assembly date on the front pad must be at least 2-3 days prior to the day the car was produced at St. Louis.

Based on what you've told us so far, the block was cast on December 30, 1964, about ten days after the car was produced, so it can't be original to the car on that basis.

The engine assembly date on the front pad is May 12, 1965, nearly five months after the car was produced, so it can't be original to the car on that basis either.

Verify the block casting date and the engine assembly date again, and the VIN number, and let us know if closer observation changes anything.

Thanks for your patience, and help. I have to make the trip to see this car now and see what I can figure out.I will let everyone know what I find. Usually I can eliminate them by the stamp pad and trim tag, but this one had be baffeled. All I have to work with is the NCRS pocket guide which is not all the info I need. I can do pretty well on c-3's but the mid-years are new to me. Thanks to everyone for all the help. Tom

        Re: 65 engine date code?

Here's the story. I am back from Atlanta, and done looking at the 65 coupe. Here is what I found. Serial # on the stamp pad 510?996 This was behind the A/C compressor and hard for them to get to I geuss. The the rest was pretty clear and was as follows F0512H?. The engine cast date back near the bell housing was L304. The intake was A885. The seller said he was told by the person he bought it from on THE- FLEE that it was #'s matching and the original engine !I really don't think the seller knew that he had been taken.Anyway I am glad I made the trip because this car was optioned just the way I wanted it, and if I had not gone I would always have wondered what the deal was. A big thanks to everyone on this board who helped me. Tom Stanton #41491
