    Body lift scheduled for tomorrow

If all goes according to plan, (it never does!) the body will come off my '62 tomorrow or Sunday.
Here are some pictures of how it will be done. Using four 2" heavy duty ratchet straps anchored to the second floor above it, the straps will be hooked under the rocker panels just behind the front outer body mounts in the front and just behind the outer body mounts in the rear. The car will be jacked up about 10" front and rear on jack stands. After the straps are tightened the body mount bolts will be removed. The body will be lifted slightly to record all body mounts and shims. Then the jack stands will be removed and the frame lowered to the floor. The body will then be raised to an appropriate hight and secured with blocking. If anyone sees any problems with the pictures attached, please feel free to speak up LOUDLY! This is my first attempt at this and I dont want to screw it up. It looks like it will work to me but what the heck do I know. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. I removed the doors and put the bracing in as descibed in other posts. Any suggestions will be welcomed with open arms and ears.
    Thanks.

In photo 1 showing the doors.

It it braced so the opening is fixed? So the body will not bend/flex either direction.

It appears that it will bend in the middle.

      David,
I've only done this once, so I'm not sure I should be giving advice, but I agree with Gary - I worry it will bend in the middle.
Unlike many others, I left my doors in place so that I could monitor the door gap to ensure the body wasn't flexing. I used the radiator support as front lifting points and a combination of the rear wheel wells and convertible top brackets as rear lifting points.

I believe the you should use a solid brace between the door opening so the body doesnt bend/flex when the body is set down, it looks like it will bow down in the center/fold in. some guys leave the doors on until the body is secured/braced to a dolly. good luck

OK, I see your point here. Lifting from four different points I need a stiff leg where the door was. Thanks.

It is interesting about "the wave". I have noticed most all new C6 and even C5 owners look at you cluelessly as you wave. I think it is only being practiced by C1, C2, and C3 people.

Re: Body lift scheduled for tomorrow

Well, as expected, many issues arose this weekend and the body still sits on the frame. Well, sort of. I changed the door bracing to solid pieces and put two on each side. I also moved the rear lift points to the soft top mounts behind the seats. I added another lift point in the front with aviation cable wrapped around the radiator bottom mount. I took all body mount bolts out. The only problem mounts were the two in the rear. Both bolts broke. The others came off clean. So now it sits ready to raise enough to remove and count the shims. Hopefully this week some time. Thanks for all the helpful input and saving me from folding the body in the middle.

Body is still in place. I will be lifting it today enough to get the shims out and count them. Will wait for a friend to come and help with taking it up enough to get the frame out.

                      Body is off the frame!
Once you take ALL the bolts out and remove the bumper brackets instead of the bumpers it come off much better.
The serial number on the frame matches the car.
Will be moving the frame out from under it tomorrow.
Does anyone notice anything a little strange about picture #1?
I see a face on the inner fender. Look closely and you may see his horns in picture #3!
The passengers side frame appears to be straight. I will be measuring it to be sure.
