    2003 Radio/CD player delemia

My 2003, which I just purchased, has a strange feature and/or a problem. The situation is as follows: With the radio/CD player on I turn the ignition/car off, remove the key from the ignition, open the door and the radio/CD player shuts off when the door is opened. However, within seconds the radio/Cd player comes back on. This does not seem to be correct. I would think the radio/Cd player would stay off. If I lock the car with the remote the radio/CD player shuts off and stays off. Is this normal? Is there a setting that will override this condition? Has anybody experienced this phenomenon? If there is a problem how is it corrected?

    Hi Jerome !

I can assure you that this is not normal. Nor is it a feature you can program into the car. Sounds like your "RAP" Retained Accessory Power is working, but something is kicking it back on. I seached for a bulletin and found nothing. I have never had this happen in the hundreds of C5's I've been around. Probably a goofy module or something kicking it back on.

I wish the car was here in my shop, I could track it down for you in a heartbeat, but it is too hard to pinpoint without the car here. Hopefully you have a qualified Corvette tech in your area familiar with the C5.

I did shoot this portion of the service manual for you. Before you run this diagnosis, be sure you have no after market systems in the car. ( security system or remote start. )

All Retained Accessory Power ( RAP ) funtions of this vehicle are controlled by the Body Control Module ( BCM ) using Class 2 serial data. If class 2 communication between the radio, BCM and Data Link Connector is functioning properly, and the door ajar switches are working properly, replace the BCM.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to try and help.
