    NCRS promotion in Turkey!

    Hi,

I thought I just share this one with you guys! For my job I have been living in Turkey (Istanbul) for a while. Well anybody who knows the city can confirm this place has a fibe and the Turks love US cars. Well in 2008 a local classic car magazine was launched by some passionate people.

Somehow the tracked me down in 2009 and I have been assisting them with the advertorials. The first mag of 2010 they wanted to lauch a special on the corvette, so I took the chance

With the help of some Dutch Chapter folks we created a nice cover story on the C2 midyear (thanks sander and jim lennartz), a C2 owner story and we have a great interview with Europe's well known Corvette collector Andre Boer.

So you see...Vette fans are everywhere

Interesting side trip story. To take it even further, the retired Swedish police officer who helped find the Camoradi Corvette owns the twin of what is pictured on the magazine cover as a "1956 Plymouth Belvedere" - but his is badged as a "DeSoto Diplomat" - built in Istanbul and bought to Sweden by the Turkish ambassador.

              Michael,

I spent a year in Sinop, Turkey 73-74 time frame compliments of the U.S. Air Force.

When I went to Istanbul for a visit I saw a 64 or 65 Chevelle SS conv. packed with young Turkish ladies riding around. A very rare sight indeed.

Is the Kervensary (sp) night club still in business there? We visited that and checked out the belly dancers.

              Merihaba.

                Hi Jimmy,

I know sinop, very nice place to visit!

Kervansaray - there are a few places named like that. Do you know the district where it was in Istanbul.

The chevelle - I see it occasionally here. In the magazine there is a green one for sale, rediculously priced compared to the states.

I was in Istanbul two years ago and loved the city. One day we walked from our little hotel to the blue mosque and on the street in front was a local car club show, about 10 50's and 60's Chevy's. I remember in particular a 58 Chev, all were drivers but kept in very nice original condition and the owners were excited to talk with an american about their cars. Even though communication was a little difficult, when it came to cars we had not trouble. If you've never been to Istanbul, one of the great cities to visit with a tremendous amount of history.
