Calling Joe Lucia: re GM# 3888248

    Joe,

Do you have any NOS 3888248 bolts in your parts collection? Are they black phosphate?

Believe it, or not, I don't have any. However, I'm virtually certain they were either black or natural.

      Joe,

I think someone should donate an NOS example for your collection.

          Brad,

It sounds like there's no evidence to support a zinc/cad finish. Thanks to all who chimed it. I think the case is closed.

Here's a shot that shows that the bolts were black. (dk grey, actually) Early 66 chassis on the line at St Louis. Black lock washers also.

Phos & oil was a typical fastener coating back then, rather simple, very little corrosion resistance.

this black oxide thing that is such a fascination would not have been an acceptable treatment for chassis & suspension parts.
