66 Roaster RH LH outer bumper braces

As I am doing work on car parts while car is at painter (Sunday after two years of restoration work) I have the two outer front bumper braces. 35 years ago I hit the 59th Street Bridge in Manhattan. Is the RH bumper brace for my car Part # 38482118 RH suppose to have a bend in it. See photo. The LH brace # 38482117 is straight.

Before I straighten it or order a new one, does the brace have a bend or not?

It looks like Bubba was there.

It also looks like they Hogged out the outer mounting hole. Should weld it up and redrill it.

      Jack,
Looks like Bubba has been at work. They both should be straight. Before I straightened it I would mount the bumper and determine why it was probably bent to fit. As you know it's a tedious task mounting the bumpers and not damaging the body.
      Good luck.

          JACK,
Bubba got you on this one.Straighten that bad boy out,and quickly before you paint that fender.Hope you dont have to re work that fender
curve.Looks like BUBBA bent it in an effort to shorten it up otherwise it would not fit in the remodeled space.(after the collision)
          Best of luck,Francis
(ps see you on the road trip!

I was hesitant to do anything because of what you said about fitting. I did put the bumpers back on this summer waiting for paint and did draw the bumper to the brace. I do have a dent in the fiberglass that my painter was not happy with.

I will order a new one, at less than $20 bucks (GM parts book I have from 1969 lists it a $1.40 ) and trial fit it before the painter sprays..

PS You guys never let a guy forget his mistakes, Buy the way, it took 10 years for me to fix the LIC damage, it happens when it is your only car and you can't take it off the road.
