What Is the oldest coin you have found in your car?
What Is the oldest coin you have found in your car?
Today while we were cutting the inner rocker panel support of of a 61 we are restoring a 1939 Mercury dime fell out from between the plate and fiberglass so it has been there from the assembly line!!! This is by far the oldest coin I have ever pulled out of one of these cars I have worked on. I was wondering if anyone found one older than this, if so let us know.

Rich,
Did you find it on the outside of the reinforcement, or inside? If inside area, it's possible a prior owner lost it in the hole near the sill step.
I found several coins and items in my 59 deep in that channel. Saw something in the hole under the ds sill step. Had to use a claw grabber to get them out. I found a 50's ladies lipstick, cig lighter, and a 1959 penny. Pic.

I recently had my seats redone by Al Knoch at the winter meet here. The technicians doing the work said it was the first car they worked on that they didn't find any money or special item under the seats - just a little trash, leaves, an old lens cleaning cloth (always wore glasses) and an old shop towel. Good thing I no longer keep a pistola there.

When I replaced the body mounts on my untouched '67, I took off the covers at the rear kick up of the frame. Inside in one of cavities, I found a crumpled up empty pack of Lucky Strike cigs. On the side of the pack was a warning which said...Smoking may be hazardous to your health!

Never found one in a car, but, in 1977, we built our home here in the sands of Florida. One morning, I saw a glitter in the fresh moved sand. There was a 1910s dime in excellent condition. My Dad was a coin collector, gave it to him, was worth $7.00 back then. Keep looking down. Bill

About ten years ago on a trip to Galveston, Tx. my wife and I looked around the Strand district for awhile. While unlocking the car I look down in the gutter and their is a $100 bill. Still carry it around as my "lucky 100".

Found a wedding invitation and a shot glass.. The car was owned by one of the elite politicians in Montana. Guy ran for Gov. never got there but was found guilty of stealing money to the tune of 10 million from people. Was another version of Madoff, although much smaller scale!

I just bought a 57 Bel Air 2 door hardtop project and while cleaning found a 1941 nickle, 1950 penny and a 1967 penny.
I bought a rough 73 Corvette in 1980 when I lived in Clearwater, Fl. The previous owner was a crazy woman who must have just thrown any loose change over her shoulder. I found over $20 in coins and a 50 dollar bill folded up and stuffed behind the edge of the carpet by the center console.

Twelve years ago I bought a 68 Camero to restore with my son. After we got it home we were going through it and I found one of those red and white personal check boxes under the driver's seat. In that box were the prior owner's old driver's license, some small papers with scribbling on them, and several old coins including an 1880 Morgan dollar in poor condition.
I thought that it would be a good lesson for the boy if we returned it, since it was'nt part of the deal. When the guy opened the door he had one of those "The sale was final and I never want to see you again looks". I had the boy hand him the box and I don't remember if he even said thank you, but his look sure changed. Good lesson for the boy.
