    1965 questions

I was looking at this car on ebay (130364953884), not to buy, but to educate myself a bit as one day (after I put my two kids through college, starting this year....) I hope to add a 65 or 66 big block to the stable.

The ad states " rare JJ paint code which is not a standard color ". When I looked it up in my black book, JJ is not listed and I found it interesting that the paint codes for 65 were letters while the other years all seem to be numbers. Why is this?

Tom -- According to Dupont 1965 General Motors color chip brochure, 'J' is Cypress Green for Chevrolet (also called Verde Green for Buick and Forest Mist for Olds). The second letter identifies the roof color in two tone paint jobs. Since the Corvette did not have 2-tone paint, 'JJ' was the standard format for 1965. This model year was an odd-ball one for trim tags -- the only time that double letters were used to designate body color.

Examining the color chips for Glenn Green and Cypress Green side-by-side, the latter is a tad more green and not quite as dark. Nevertheless, very close.
