    1995 Center Console Contents

I have been trying to resolve some questions that have come up concerning the Center Console Contents for my 1995 LT1 Coupe. Some have been resolved, others have not. One of the items that came up at the Regional at Kissimmee was the Emergency Keys..Keys and key notice sheet. I have obtained an emergency key for my Corvette all though it is not the original. It should be noted that it has the VIN of a 1995 Corvette stamped on it and it is referred to a Courtesy Key. In conjunction with this line item, the Roadside Assistance Brochure items came into play also. The Judging Manual calls for a Brochure. I believe that at least in the 1995's this brochure was replaced with a credit card size Chevrolet/Geo Roadside Assistance Card. I have the card for my Corvette with the VIN stamped on it. I contacted a noted and well versed Corvette Salesman who provided me with a letter from the Chevrolet Division that he received when he purchased his 1996 Impala. He has all the documentation for this vehicle. This letter encloses the same type of Roadside Assistance Card that I have and in addition encloses an emergency key. This letter is addressed to him by name. Chevrolet would have not had his name until after the sale.
Bottom line is that it maybe that the Roadside Assistance Card and Emergency Key were sent to the new Owner after delivery from Bowling Green and should not be listed as a Center Console Items. I am putting this up for discussion as it seems there are some questions here.

    Re: 1995 Center Console Contents

In my opinion, there should be no question. The letter and card were sent to the buyer after delivery. We know that. As far as the KEYS go, it was only a key. As you can see in the photo, only one key was provided for the door only. Since the Corvette used the VATS pellet in it, an ignition key was not provided. Earlier GM cars without VATS included a door and emergency key made out of plastic.

Lets take a look at this "courtesy key" since it was mailed to the buyer AFTER the purchase and Flight Judging is
"AS THE CAR WAS DELIVERED AT THE DEALER" how does this even begin to quality as something that should be judged as
in the glove box at time of dealer delivery.? How about one of the NATIONAL JUDGES eliminating this item from the must haves ?

        Re: 1995 Center Console Contents

Bob, this issue has been discussed in preparing the new Judging Manuals. The early C4's had a plastic key that was in the leather pouch. Around 1993, a different method of providing information concerning Roadside Assistance was established by GM. With this new method of Roadside Assistance being instituted by GM the previous plastic key was deleted and the new owner received in the mail after the sale a plastic sleeve with a brass key for their respective new Corvette with the VIN stamped on the plastic sleeve. You are correct after about 1993 the Courtesy/Emergency Key should not be a judged item. This is being address in the new Judging Manuals. A new 1990-91 Judging Manual is being processed at this time and it will be fully explained. The post you are referring to was created in 2010 and a lot of additional information has been developed.

If you want. you can send me an email and will attached a number of photos that I have obtained since that time, including an original envelope that the Courtesy/Emergency Key was enclosed.

        Hope this helps

When did Chevrolet begin providing Roadside Assistance Cards and Courtesy Keys?

Does the Courtesy Key look like a regular key except no VATS pellet?

Mark, the Courtesy Key and the VATS Key are totally different. I am attaching a photo of the Brass Courtesy Key. From the research that I have been able to develop it looks like sometime in 1993 the change over took place, not completely sure as a number of things changed, such as the addition of the Roadside Assistance Decal on the Drivers Window, the deletion of the Roadside Assistance Brochure from the Leather Pouch.
I am not speaking for the Judging Chairman of NCRS or the National Judging Chairman for the C4's, only my humble opinion.
As I stated, the respective VIN is on the plastic sleeve and this Key should not be considered a Judged Item. Again, the rule is, judge as it is in the Judging Manual, but after years of experience I know and the National Judging Chairman for the C4's know that this is not a judged item and will be addressed when the new 1994-96 Judging Manual is issued. This item has been discussed at great length among the Judges.

Was the courtesy key a door key ? A ignition key without the VATS would be useless Bob

Its pouch says "Operates Door Only", so no VATS. It's easy to lock the keys inside these cars, so a courtesy key would be handy in those cases.

Pat- So you're saying GM began sending a courtesy key to owners sometime during the 1993 MY?

                  Re: 1995 Center Console Contents

Folks, this is a follow up to the question on how was the Courtesy Key utilized.

When GM sent the Courtesy Key it was enclosed in a folder that looked like a Big Key. On the inside of this folder was the Courtesy Key. On the inside of the Key Folder it is stated that this key is to be used if you lock your keys inside your Corvette.

                  Hope this helps.

There are a couple more items on the judging guide console contents listing that I can not find, and I am not sure they even existed in 95.
I opened a whole new thread, hopefully I get some education on what I am looking for ie photos or if the items even exist in 95.
I appreciate a 400 level judge taking a look at the other thread I started today Pretty petty, but I want it right.
Hope to see you in Palm Springs convention, 10 miles away from my home Thanks Bob

Check your RPO codes for DL5. Roadside service information decal). If you have this code, then you should have the sticker.

My 95 has the DL5 code and the sticker (see pic).

I'll look. I may have one. Your VIN sounds like your car may have been a pilot car. Bob, I have seen many low mile 95 ZR1's without the roadside decal. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
