Ahhhh...Ain't progress great!

I can already hear the NCRS arguments about SS urethane vs BC/CC vs waterborne finishes. I'm expecting that, once waterborne finishes are forced on the aftermarket, the EPA will make VOC regs so stringent that even urethane will be emasculated as a durable finish (ala acrylic lacquer).

But...as long as urethane can be found, the restoration wrangling will continue.

Waterborne paint is applied as a base coat only. You still have to use a solvent borne clear over it.

Don't hold your breath - GM, Ford and Chrysler formed a joint program eight years ago with PPG, DuPont, and BASF to develop a non-VOC clearcoat material (powder, waterborne, or something not invented yet), and $800 million later, nothing has been found that works in a high-volume application environment.

Thank you for the replies. The Devilbiss Plus looks like a good choiceto me. Do I understand correctly that almost any cheap gun is suitable for primer? Any recommendations for a touch up gun?

That is correct Randy, any cheap gun can shoot primer good enough for our purposes. If it were me, I would not get a touch up gun unless you have a real need for it. For one or two paint jobs I think you will be fine without it.
