    THM-400 TCS Switch Connector

Several weeks ago there was a thread concerning the TCS switch CONNECTOR used for the 1970-72 THM-400 transmission. The connector is the part that mounts on the outside of the transmission and connects to the SWITCH mounted on the inside of the transmission.

As I mentioned in that thread, the current part number for the CONNECTOR is GM #8629502. However, that's not the ORIGINAL part number. The ORIGINAL part number was GM #8626597. Attached are photos of an NOS example of the original connector I have.

How the current 8629502 and original 8626597 differ, I do not know.

    Joe,
I don't know if you seen the thread from a couple of days ago ("70 TCS Switch"), but it got me looking at my own transmissions, along with the CSM, and the parts books. I guess my question now is:
In the picture shown (fig 8T) in the CSM (pg 7-44), and captioned TCS switch, is it really not the switch itself, but the connector you show here??
And is the 6462286 part number is the actual internal switch??

I'm not well-versed on automatic transmissions. However, from what I've been able to find out on this issue (mostly from the previous thread which the poster providing the information inexplicably decided to delete), the CONNECTOR is the piece EXTERNALLY mounted to the transmission and the SWITCH to which it connects is INTERNAL to the transmission.

The original, apparently INTERNALLY-mounted switch was GM #6462286.
