C2 Roadster #1 Body Mount Spacer

On my 1964 roadster, the #1 mount had a rubber bushing, not an aluminum spacer, and it did not appear to have ever been changed - but who knows. I'm just about to put the body back on and I'm going to use the correct spacers. Since this will be different than what I observed when I took it appart, I'm having to think about the shims. The spacer is about 1/8" (2 shims) thinner than the rubber bushings that are in the #3 & #4 positions. Do I have to account for this with additional shims under the aluminum spacer or is the thickness difference there because the rubber bushings will compress down 1/8"?

I believe the rubber mounting you found on disassembly is correct for the 64 model. It was one of the "refinements" made from the 63. I believe this was done to take away some of the harshness of the ride, that the 63 model had.

Lynn, you are correct as far as I know. Also, the body mount bracket welded to the frame (64 to 67) is shorter to allow for the rubber cushion.

They did go back to solid mounting in the C3 era but I am not sure if it was with the 68 model (both my 70 and 72 are solid mounts), and then in 73 they once again returned to the rubber mounting. I believe they remained that way through 82 production.

You guys are correct that cushions were added in 1964. However, on the convertible only, the #1 position mount uses an aluminum spacer instead of the rubber cushion used on the coupe. Also, the covertible uses a bolted connection (no cushion or spacer) at the number two position, and this mount location is unused on the coupe in 1964. I guess this was done to firm up the body/chassis on the convertible since there is no top to add rigidity.

I went out and did some testing on the compression of the rubber cushions and I think I have it worked out. Thanks for the responses.

            Jeff,

Believe checking your assembly manual you'll observe the aluminum spacer will be used at body mount position #2 in conjunction with any needed shims.
