best vendor to buy fuel injection rebuild kit?

Can folks give me some ideas of vendors to check on for Fuel Injection rebuild kits? The only place I can find is Jack Podell's website. John Degregory if youre out there, where do you buy your kits? Or do you make your own? Would it be better to buy an NOS kit, or would the rubber parts likely be shot? I'm crazy or stupid enough to try it myself first before sending it to the pros when I inevitably screw it up.

    thanks in advance!

I've used NOS kits for a long time. If the kit hasn't been opened, I've not found any issues with the rubber diaphragms at all.

Mike, the way I understand it is the Ethanyl they put in gas nowdays attacks the older rubbers. I would be learly of NOS stuff. The way to tell is put them in a can of gas before installing and see if they swell up. -Dan-

I think John Degregory did a test and it worked fine for him? More convincingly though, Hagerty Insurance sponsored a test by a big university and found no ill effects. They tested E10. There are newer E15 and E20 blends being considered and those weren't tested. I saw this in hemmings magazine. So E10 would seem to be fine. The thing to be more concerned about is E15 and E20 coming up.

i don't do FI but i know that the new gasoline will swell and harden the carb accelerator pump diaphragms and cup plungers if they are made from rubber. all the new kits use viton pump parts which are either blue, tan, green or red in color

                  Dan--
Go ahead and be leery if you want--I have 4 62 fuelies and a 57 fuelie that I drive each summer--I use today's gas (don't have a supply left from the 60's) and I don't have any problems at all with the NOS factory rebuild kits.
In fact, if one is getting gas on the diaphragms in the FI unit, he has more problems than he knows!

E-10 is generally accepted as the Max "safe" level of ethanol in a Fuel system, the problem is that the blending at the fuel suppliers is not always well controlled and when you get over 10% the effect on rubber parts changes rather quickly and dramaticly. Memo-buy gas from a reputable supplier and hope his distributor has good controls.

Ian, Trouble with NOS kits and the old FI rebuild kits (and carb kits) is that the rubber used is buna-rubber. Well buna rubber and corn fuel don't mix well at all.
Email me for more as I have an extensive FI parts catalog and don't like to do business on these pages. I see some others doing it but I thought we were not supposed to. johndegreg@aol.com

Hi Mike- I was only trying to be helpful - no pun intended. I know 15% and 20% ethanol is being considered by the current adminstration, but I don't think it will become law. It just is not any greener and there are other drawbacks with it. But as others are saying here, the blend does vary some, and dealing with very old rubbers can be inviting trouble. If the rubber should break up and disolve in the injectors it would not be a very nice repair. I myself would feel much better with rubbers that I know are compatible. Just my 2 cents -Dan-
